6th A students worked on a project about Nelson Mandela and the Apartheid. They became personally involved in the project. All four skills, reading, writing, listening and speaking were integrated.
The first part of the project involved gathering information on the Apartheid, which they used to discuss and debate about it. After this, students needed to do much more than remember information. They needed to use higher-order thinking skills to carry out different tasks and learn to work as a team.
Students asked questions, searched for answers, and arrived at conclusions, leading them to construct something new: an idea, an interpretation, or a product.
Then they watched the film “Invictus” and after that students wrote emails to Nelson Mandela expressing their admiration, asking questions about his life and telling him how they were inspired by him to “dream big”. Here we share some of their productions.
